Introducing David Gillese, R.Ac: Resident Cupping Therapy & NADA ear acupuncture practitioner!

David Gillese (he/him) is a Registered Acupuncturist, Tui Na practitioner, martial artist, Qigong-er, gardener, rock climber, former singer in various local choirs, In 2020, he completed his training as a Registered Acupuncturist at the Oshio College of Acupuncture & Herbology in Victoria, BC.

David is currently studying kinesiology at University of Victoria, to deepen his existing understanding of movement practises such as martial arts and Qigong, and how to use them as tools to support health and wellness. He draws from a variety of bodywork styles including Myofascial trigger point therapy, Reflexology, Tui Na (Chinese-style Massage) and Acupressure.

David has been drawn to Community Acupuncture (CA) as first a lover of (acu)naps then subsequently a member of the H&H front desk volunteer team and now, soon to be acupunk! Accessibility is a core value within the CA model, but also for all of the health services he offers both in his bodywork practice and now in acupuncture!

David is excited to offer Cupping Therapy and NADA ear acupuncture, 2 services that compliment our Community Acupuncture services and/or have therapeutic benefits when used on their own. He is also delighted that his H&H volunteer service has come full circle and he has gone from taking care of clients from behind the desk to supporting their health and wellness as a newly licensed Registered Acupuncturist!

Cupping Therapy

FRIDAYS 3:00 – 7:00pm

Sessions are 30 minutes.
$30-60 sliding scale. Pay what you can afford.

Cupping therapy is an adjunct technique in which a local suction is created on the skin with the application of heated cups. A provider places cups on your back, stomach, arms, legs or other parts of your body. Inside the cup, a vacuum or suction force pulls skin upward.

Ideal for chronically tight muscles, it helps to loosen layers of connective tissue (fascia) and relieves swelling, pain and tension. It is a great compliment to our Community Acupuncture service!

Cupping is a therapy used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to remove stagnation and stimulate the flow of qi. Qi is the free flow of vital energy circulating through the body and the world around us, if the qi is disrupted or disturbed, it can create stagnation (blockages) or imbalances in the body.

In addition to cupping, if appropriate, David may incorporate acupressure and tui na style massage can be applied during the session to deepen the release of tension. “Tui na” (pronounced “twee naw”), which literally means “pinch and pull,” refers to a wide range of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapeutic massage and body work. The gentle mobilization of joints and kneading of muscles of tui na to address specific patterns of disharmony complements cupping nicely.
