The mysterious package…

This mysterious package arrived at the clinic on Monday…so I’d like to thank Keira for this generous gift…uncertain if it is a client or otherwise…

As a chronically ill WOC, the fake world of media/social media and in general the world at large has made it abundantly clear that I am not the marketable face nor remotely the dominant narrative.

I’ve mostly kept my head down, blocked out the noise, rooted down and continued to focus on ways I can hold and support my community in real and tangible ways. Heart & Hands after all wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the thousands of clients who visit us for care and respite year in and year out.

Most of the time, I just feel like I’m screaming into the void. But every so often, someone screams back. I try to trust that my work will reach those who need it.

And now I’ve been introduced to another amazing group of organizations whose values align with mine.

Starting with an entrepreneurship program in three local shelters, FreeFrom launched GIFTED — a social enterprise where 100% of every purchase helps survivors build wealth, safety, and power through their handcrafted products. For survivor-entrepreneurs, creating these items nurtures their healing, giving customers even more of a reason to gift abundantly.

The FreeFrom team is made up of queer, trans, im/migrant, and BIPOC survivors. We envision a world in which all survivors are able to build the wealth and financial security necessary to support their individual, intergenerational, and community healing—enabling them to thrive.
