Guest post: Time for Tea, Seasonal Stocking Stuffers

We will be periodically posting Western Herbal Medicine material on the H&H blog courtesy of our good friends at Green Muse Herbs. It is intended to compliment and support our acupuncture & TCM content as well as in solidarity of supporting other like-minded, community-based small businesses. We look forward to sharing the plant knowledge, wisdom and reflection of the gifts from this land of which we are uninvited visitors.

Whether it’s my body or my heart that’s sick, the trade of time for tea usually feels worth it to me. The hot water… the holy mug… the carefully guarded green leaves… the covered lid… the waiting. Taking a tincture is not like taking a cup of tea. A good cup of tea can perfume a room. Sometimes I hold my head over my mug and savour the steam. When I’m cold I hold it close. Once a year I brew a really big pot of it and wash the floors. If I had a bath, I’d soak in it.

Here are a few of the blends I’ve been brewing:

For sweet dreams of bitter lemons and making lemonade out of your insomnia… Lemon Dream features locally grown California poppy, locally grown Lemon Verbena, and farm-direct Milky Oat seeds.

For sinking deep into protected pools of reading relaxation and wetting your tongue until your belly’s full of ink… Ink Drinker features locally grown Rosemary, locally grown Wood Betony, and farm-direct Milky Oat seeds.

For holding a grief that’s sitting a little heavy in the heart and soothing a sore throat that’s been roughened by a cough… Next Breath features farm-direct Marshmallow, locally grown Sage, and locally grown Rose petals.

Sample tins of these blends and others, local mini raw honeys, and locally made beeswax pinecone candles are all $5 each at the shop right now. Or come stock up on some local beeswax and bulk herbs to make your own candles and blend your own teas this winter season.

Green Muse is located at 1038 Fort St, on Lekwungen Territories.

Wishing you all a blessed midwinter solstice,
