Reintroducting your acupunks: Jaay (Jade) Kulhawy-Bartlett, R.Ac & Jade (JO) Oswald, R.TCMP.!
It’s been a few weeks operating at 2612 Quadra St and we’ve had a few scheduling mix-ups, so we are taking the opportunity to reintroduce two members of our acupunking team with somewhat similar names…
Jaay (Jade) Kulhawy-Bartlett, R.Ac.
If I were to describe myself in 3 words:
Curious, considered, candid
How tall are you?
I’m 5’7” / 170 cm – easily our tallest acupunk ;)
What is your middle name?
Aislin
Are you a cat person or dog person?
I’m through and through a cat person. I have a baby photo with my first pet cuddles, a big fluffy cat, and though I was allergic to animals throughout my childhood thankfully I grew out of it! I currently have a furbaby black cat Willow who features prominently in much of my business marketing. But I have known and loved many dogs.
What year and school did you graduate from?
I graduated from Pacific Rim College here in Victoria, in December 2020.
Favorite things about the fall season:
I love getting to layer a bit more in my outfits and the rewarding harvest of the summer’s bounty in the garden. Also the weather being more suitable for making endless soups and stews and broths.
How do you boost your immunity?
I ensure I’m eating a diverse set of nutrient rich foods, so my body has all the tools it needs to fight things off – cutting down on the processed sugars. And I keep my system tuned up with regular acupuncture!
What do you do when you’re feeling under the weather?
SLEEP. I get myself to bed as early as humanly possible and cancel all my plans so I can devote my energy to recovery. Then I thaw some broth so I can nourish my system.
Community Acupuncture is important because…
…everyone deserves to be able to find accessible and comfortable care when they are struggling. Financial privilege does not equate to one’s worthiness of receiving care. It also allows for more people to try this powerful medicine when they previously would never have considered it!

Crusty, sparkly, shitzhu
How tall are you?
I’m 5’2″ – Definitely our shortest acupunk
What is your middle name?
Aislinn (I’m seriously not kidding…)
Are you a cat person or dog person?
Definitely a dog person. If it wasn’t for the housing crisis, I’d probably run a senior dog
hospice in my bedroom. I check the rescues daily awaiting my next beast to pamper and love. For now I will doom scroll dog videos on Instagram and coo at all the neighbourhood doggies.
What year and school did you graduate from?
I graduated in 2021 from Kootenay Columbia College (formerly ACOS) in Nelson.
Favorite things about the fall season:
I love bundling in scarfs and sweaters and taking my bike out to the beaches around town or to the park to submissive grin at peoples dogs. Squash is one of my favorite foods, and always look forward to when its available in season and local. I make many a soup and take many a baths.
How do you boost your immunity?
I come to Heart & hands for regular acu-naps. I have a regular bedtime routine of burning Moxibustion over ST 36 and over my belly. And I make herbal broths with immune boosting, and seasonally supportive herbals.
What do you do when you’re feeling under the weather?
I hunker down and live off soup and tea and up my sleep and rest. I often put myself on a herbal formula and try and get some cupping and gua sha on my upper back & neck to try and boot the evils out before they penetrate deeper into my bod.
Community Acupuncture is important because…
