Care work is…
We can’t resonate more strongly with this poignant and realistic statement about care work, courtesy of the wonderful Radical Emprints.
As tuck into what we hope will be a restful holiday season, this is a time to reflect back on the past year that is wrapping up. The countless hours of admin, charting, housekeeping, mountains of LAUNDRY, but also the moments of peace, safety, collective kindness, which we can only describe as brief glimpses of magic. As yin is to yang.
Our veteran acu-nappers know this well, the warm, comforting gravity of slowing down, moving intentionally and sharing the tender, vulnerable company of sleeping strangers. It is also important to remember that participating in our group setting is actually also, care work.
Not all revolutions are big, loud and exciting. Revolutions like ours are often overlooked, because of its unassuming, quiet and slow nature, but it doesn’t make the impact of care work any less valuable or significant. In fact, we might say we are of greater significance, because our work helps to SUSTAIN the long term efforts that yield measurable and foundational social change. We know this well, this little clinic who could has been sustaining our community and its countless social movements for 13 years and counting. We look forward to sustaining many, many more.
Life consists of a series of tiny miracles. Notice them.
